In a bid to provide effective, efficient and safe world-class transport and public works infrastructure, the Minister of Transport Works and Infrastructure Honorable Ebrima Sillah today begins a three-day routine inspection of all project sites nationwide.
The Works Minister‘s tour will be divided into two phases: On the First Phase of the tour scheduled from 9th – 11th February 2024, the Honorable Minister Ebrima Sillah and delegation will be visiting the following sites on Friday, 9th February; Niumi Hakalang Road, the Road Maintenance at Kerewan Njawara & Bannie-Salikenni and the Senegambia Bridge.
On Saturday, 10th February 2024, Hon. Minister Sillah and delegation will return to Banjul and will visit the EPC LLots 5, 8 and 9 in the West Coast Region.
On Sunday, 11th February 2024, the delegation is expected to visit the Bertil Harding Road, the 50Km Urban Roads and the Banjul Road Project.
Meanwhile, the Second Phase of the tour is expected to continue on Tuesday 13th February 2024 to other sites in the rural areas, details of which will be shared upon completion.
The objective of the visit is to gather first-hand information and assess progress of construction works so far. The visit will also provide opportunity for intervention to mitigate the challenges that both contractors and communities are faced with.
For the Works Minister, the site inspection is significant given mandate of his office as the custodian of efforts to provide effective, efficient and safe world-class transport and public works infrastructure in order to meet the needs of the public.
“It is crucial to take initiative to inspect the project sites and communicate and share timely and relevant information with public audiences. We will be assessing the progress of work and also render intervention where necessary in order to ensure quality and timely delivery of services is achieved. Most of our projects are built for the next generations and as such we are conscious of using quality and sustainable material that are climate and environment friendly,” he said.
The inspection will serve as an avenue for the minister to raise concerns as well as accolade the efforts of communities, contractors and consultants in their effort to make The Gambia a country developed with modern road networks and a digitized infrastructure.
