The Minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure officially inaugurated a new Board of Directors for the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) on Tuesday, 27th May 2025, marking a significant milestone in the governance of the nation’s aviation sector.
The board was selected through a rigorous and transparent process, bringing together a team of dedicated professionals ready to lead the GCAA into a new era.
During the inauguration, the Honourable Minister highlighted the critical role the new board will play in steering the strategic and operational transformation of the GCAA, particularly in the decoupling of its tripartite functions.
This initiative is in line with recommendations from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and reflects global best practices ensuring that The Gambia’s aviation sector remains competitive, safe, and efficient.
Mr. Fansu Bojang, Director General of the GCAA, warmly welcomed the new Board of Directors, expressing both his and the management’s strong commitment to close collaboration with the board.
“We are ready to support you in achieving your strategic objectives and enhancing the operational capabilities of the GCAA,” he stated.
In her remarks, Board Chairwoman Mrs. Nancy Jow assured the audience that the board would serve with diligence and integrity.
“We understand the responsibilities that come with this role, and we are committed to making decisions that will benefit the aviation industry and the Gambian people,” she affirmed.
Fatou Jeng, a legal expert and newly appointed board member, expressed her honour in being selected to serve. As a frequent air traveler, she stressed the urgent need for airport upgrades to meet international standards.
“Instead of sitting outside and criticizing, it is better to serve and direct efforts towards the betterment of Gambian aviation,” she remarked.
Ms. Jeng further underscored the board’s commitment to proactive engagement and continuous improvement.
The inauguration of the new Board of Directors represents a pivotal moment for the GCAA, as it embarks on a decoupling process aimed at enhancing the safety, efficiency, and overall quality of civil aviation in The Gambia.
With strategic initiatives ahead, the board is well-positioned to raise the standards of the GCAA and support national development through improved air transport infrastructure.
