The Minister of Transport works and Infrastructure, Honourable Ebrima Sillah continued his inspection of ongoing project sites under his Ministry across the country. The Honorable Minister expressed delight at the level of progress achieved on all the Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) road projects he visited in Gunjur, Sanyang and Farato respectively.
Honourable Sillah said the government is empowering the local contractors by providing the enabling environment through which they can win competitive contracts and be able to deliver on time.
“Most of our contractors are Gambians who have been trained and are experienced in construction work and they are employing Gambians. These contractors in return employ young people the employees are also natives of these communities”, he said.
The Gunjur 4.5km road project which connects the Brusubi-Kartong to the beach is contracted to Green Vision International, a Gambian-owned Construction Company, while the Sanyang seaside, is a 4.5km road project contracted to Zen Construction and Trading Company, a Gambian-owned company. The 4km project, he went on, is contracted to Bologel Limited, a Gambian construction company and JV CSI, a Chinese construction company.
“With the progress of construction achieved, I’m optimistic that the projects will be completed on time. With a possibility of completion before the scheduled time,” he affirms.
The Minister thanked the contractors, consultants and the NRA for supervising and guiding the contractors to ensure quality roads are maintained irrespective of the region in the country.
The Alkalo of Sanyang expressed gratitude to the government for honoring their political campaign promises. He recalled that some people in his community doubted that the Hawba road construction would ever be realized, adding that the road is visible for all to see. The Alkalo thanked the government and the contractors. He said the road infrastructure will help improve their economic performance as Sanyang is a commercial hub.
Similar sentiments were echoed by the people of Gunjur and Farato Bojang-kunda.
The entourage will inspect the status of work along the Bertil Harding highway, the 50 kilometers Urban Roads and The Banjul Project respectively.
